Physical therapy

Physiotherapists are qualified healthcare professionals who assess, diagnose, treat, and prevent a wide range of health conditions and movement disorders.

Physiotherapy can play a key role in repairing damage, reducing pain and stiffness, increasing mobility, and improving overall quality of life. Physiotherapists often work closely with your GP and other healthcare providers to develop and manage a comprehensive care plan tailored to your needs.

The scope of physiotherapy includes injury prevention, recovery from both acute and chronic pain, pre- and post-operative rehabilitation, the maintenance of functional mobility, chronic disease management, and patient education.

Our Process

Pre-Appointment

Prior to your first visit, you’ll receive an email with a link to complete your New Patient paperwork. If you’re unable to complete it online, just let us know, and you can fill out a paper version upon arrival (please arrive 10 minutes early).

Understanding Your Case

During the consultation, we’ll take the time to discuss:

  • Your health concerns
  • Past and current health status, family medical history
  • Daily activities and personal health goals

Assessment

We’ll perform a focused musculoskeletal and neurological assessment to better understand your case and determine the best course of action.

  • In some cases, referral for imaging (x-rays, ultrasound, or MRI) is required

Treatment Options

If manual therapy is indicated, we may begin treatment right away, which could include:

  • Soft tissue massage & trigger point therapy
  • Joint mobilisations & manipulations
  • Dry needling
  • Strapping/taping

Personalised Rehabilitation Plan

If rehabilitation or exercises will aid your recovery, we’ll develop a customised program tailored to you. This plan will be reviewed in detail during your next appointment, and can include:

  • At-home exercises (via the Physitrack app)(1)
  • One-on-one assisted sessions in our pilates studio upstairs

Functional Rehabilitation

Our tailored physiotherapy rehabilitation combines Clinical Pilates with evidence-based strength exercises, targeting posture, balance, mobility, and functional movement for dynamic improvement and goal attainment.

We offer group-based, physiotherapist-guided rehabilitation and Pilates sessions in our upstairs studio. These small group classes (maximum of 3 participants) provide personalised attention, allowing you to progress through your rehab in a supportive, focused setting.

FAQs

Do I need a referral to book in?

No. Simply call or book online for an Initial Appointment. If you are hoping to be seen under WorkCover, Department of Veterans Affairs, NDIS, or have an EPC (Medicare) plan, please call ahead to let us know and bring the required paperwork to the Initial Appointment.

What happens if I have private health insurance?

Our practice uses Hicaps, meaning you can swipe or tap your health fund card at time of payment for an instant rebate (depending on your level of healthcare cover and services provided under your policy). If you’ve forgotten your card we can email you your receipt so that you can claim the rebate yourself.

Does physiotherapy hurt?

Physiotherapy should not be painful, though some discomfort may occur, particularly when addressing injuries or working with inflamed tissue. Our skilled physiotherapists will keep you informed and adjust the treatment to maintain your comfort. It’s important to communicate any pain or discomfort so the approach can be modified if needed. If you have further questions or concerns, it’s always a good idea to discuss them directly with your practitioner.

How many sessions will I need to get better?

The number of physiotherapy appointments needed varies based on your specific condition, treatment goals, and response to therapy. Some people may see improvement in just a few sessions, while others may require several weeks or months of treatment. Your physiotherapist will assess your progress and discuss a tailored plan with you, including whether ongoing visits are necessary for maintenance or prevention.

How long are the appointments?

Our Initial Appointments are 45 minutes, Standard Appointments are 30 minutes, 1 on 1 Rehab Appointments (in pilates studio) are 45 minutes and Group Functional Rehab Sessions (also in pilates reformer studio) are 60 minutes.

I hurt myself recently. Should I see a physio now or wait for the swelling and pain to decrease?

A physiotherapist can be seen soon after an injury if you are concerned. Early intervention allows for expert assessment, effective pain management, and the development of a tailored treatment plan. There are a range of techniques our physiotherapists can use even when you have acute pain and swelling to ease symptoms.  If you can not make it in quickly or are in too much pain, do not stress. Seek help guided by your symptoms.
